One of the standout features is the Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization, which really elevates the sound experience without needing ceiling speakers. The DTS Virtual
adds a new level of depth, creating immersive audio that makes movies, games, and music sound phenomenal. The 75 watts per channel provide more than enough power for a standard-sized living room, and the sound remains clear even at higher volumes.
The 8K upscaling is a game-changer for those who want to future-proof their setup, especially if you plan on upgrading to 8K content or displays. It also works flawlessly with 4K content, providing crisp visuals and smooth performance.
The built-in HEOS functionality is a nice bonus, allowing me to stream music wirelessly throughout the house, and having Alexa voice control makes it super convenient to adjust volume, switch inputs, or control playback without having to reach for the remote.
Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with this AVR. It offers fantastic performance, advanced features like Dolby Atmos and 8K upscaling, and easy integration with smart home devices. If you’re looking for a high-quality receiver that’s both powerful and feature-packed, this is a great choice!
Your cables need to be 48Gbps on the HDMI front. And they need to do the correct handshake on the TV to work. These cables here work.

The Setup using the Microphone is pretty nice. My old unit had a similar thing but it did not do this kind of work. Denon has you place the Mic stand in 6 different locations and then it will read you what changes it made and even what kind of phase your speakers are in. I had no idea that 4 of my 8 were out of phase. I have no idea if this made a difference in sound but once you correct it, they will test good across the board.
The UI is pretty nice all things considered. I know almost every unit has some basic UI but this one doesn't lag, does what you want it to and is easy to understand. The Sony unit I had before had a great looking UI, but sometimes it lagged and sometimes it needed help.
Sound output is amazingly clear. I have this paired with some Polk Audio using a Sony Sub Woofer. And it sounds unlike anything I've heard compared to my previous receiver. I am hearing sounds that I didn't even know existed. It's been a great experience. And I haven't even tried the Dolby Atmos yet. I need to get 2 more speakers for that. But I will be giving it a try soon!
This unit was about half the cost here compared to the Denon website. I think for the money, its the best bang for the buck.
I liked it so much, I bought another for my office. This is great.
The only thing I added was a wireless/bluetooth transceiver to hook up the rear surround speakers (I'm running a 5.1 system, although this one can do 7.1). The unit has bluetooth for input, but the speaker outputs are standard powered except for a pre-amp line out for the subwoofer.
It's got plenty of power for the average home theatre, even for a larger living room.
Ok the amps aren’t audiophile quality, and they sure won’t make your ears bleed, but if you have separate amps for the sub, in-walls or moderately sensitive 8 ohm speakers, and only need one hdmi out this is perfect. Just get it.
Downloaded the remote app to my iPhone and it makes life easy. I can connect my phone to the receiver with Bluetooth even when it's off, then start playing music on Pandora and the receiver will detect it and come on. Very slick.
Haven't tried HEOS yet but like the idea of having Wi-Fi speakers around the house beyond the range of Bluetooth.
The only issue I've run into is the source spontaneously changing occasionally. I'll be watching something on my TIVO when the source will change to Internet Radio or HEOS. I'm not sure why that happens but I live in a neighborhood with lots of Wi-Fi and Apple play nearby.
I'm past the point of return and I'm keeping this unit. I gave it a good trial over the past 30 days and happy to report that I'm a happy customer....so far. Look for an update in a few months
Great value for the money!
I also run a zone 2 out for 4 ceiling speakers in the house and it didn't need a separate amp.
for connecting old school analog wireless headphones for night time listening I have found just using the front headphone jack works best. Kids found out that spotify streams nicely to it also.
you should get it.
I'm not thrilled about the menu system. To be fair, most brands have horrible menus. This menu is OK. The quick menu to adjust the center channel doesn't always show up. There must be some criteria for it to show, but I don't know what that is.
Some standouts, theres an option to set a particular volume every time the receiver turns on. There's a quick menu to get to some settings without going through the full menu system. There's bluetooth, so that's convenient. It's low profile, which I mentioned before, so I can fit it in the shelf of my entertainment set. There's other features which I don't use so I can't comment on those.
Overall, a great receiver that's not big, sounds good, has some bells and whistles and is great price even without the sale price. I highly recommend it.
NOTE: Denon receivers don't play well with universal remotes. My old Yamaha worked well with my universal remote allowing me to cycle through the receiver inputs but the Denon does not. If you don't want to sling around multiple remotes to change the receiver input (Cable, FireStick, Xbox, etc.) you either have to buy a universal remote that allows for activities to be set or be prepared to keep your Denon AVR remote nearby.
