One of the EB5's standout features is its powerful 360Wh removable battery, which is designed to provide up to 40 miles of smooth and steady riding at a top speed of 20MPH. The real-world performance was commendably close to the advertised figures once I received a working battery. My test rides often lasted close to the 40-mile mark on a single charge, which adds a great degree of convenience and freedom to your travel plans regardless of intended use.
When it comes to speed, the EB5 does not disappoint either. It is capable of reaching a top speed of 20MPH, which feels both thrilling and safe, thanks to the bike's sturdy build and efficient braking system. Not only that, but it's one of the few good choices to slip right into the middle category regarding E-Bike laws and regulations. Since it's a Class 2, it's right in that sweet spot that accommodates all your needs without facing certain restrictions or requirements that a Class 3 might.
The initial experience with the battery was a bit rocky, as the one that came with the bike was faulty and would rapidly lose charge, resulting in short rides draining it to zero. However, Jasion's customer support was quick to rectify the issue, promptly sending a replacement that has been performing flawlessly ever since. The same goes for the back tire tube, which also had an initial defect on arrival. Again, their support team quickly addressed the issue, reinforcing my trust in their after-sales service.
The bike's construction overall is impressive, with a comfortable seat, responsive controls, and a design that blends aesthetics with functionality. It’s easy to handle, comfortable for long rides, and the removable battery makes it incredibly convenient to charge.
Considering everything, you may think that at the low price point, with good customer service, this deserves a higher rating. However, there's one area where the EB5 falls significantly short - the rear light. The quality of this component is noticeably lower compared to the rest of the bike, and it's design and inclusion feels like a massive afterthought which is a letdown considering its importance for safety during night rides. In most territories, it's not even just about safety, but also the law. You're not only protecting yourself, you're protecting other people on the road, a front light and rear light are two non-negotiable aspects of safety. While it may be true you can get aftermarket rechargeable front and rear lights to address this gripe regardless, the excellent front light and ability to control it via your handlebar toggle makes you wonder who made the decisions regarding the rear light. It's not just the brightness that's inadequate; the overall build of the light itself leaves a lot to be desired, and the concept of strapping it and keeping it powered via USB to your battery port is inconceivably stupid considering the exposed port in terms of weather conditions, and the loose wire.
Despite a few hitches initially, the Jasion EB5 Electric Bike has proven itself as a dependable and exciting mode of transportation. Its powerful battery, impressive range, and top speed make it a joy to ride, while the efficient customer support provides a safety net for any issues that may arise. If you can overlook the sub-par rear light, the EB5 is an excellent investment for those looking to embrace the e-bike lifestyle.
Final Rating: 8.70/10.0
Tires: absolute garbage. Keep letting out 10-15 psi per day. Per day!
Brakes: were not aligned from factory, a few YouTube videos down the line, they are now aligned. They are loud and squeaky but now they aren't rubbing all the time. Wanna change the brakes? Nothing in manual mentions model or specs other than disks are 160 mm. I found out that another brand called ancheer has similar brakes.
Wheels: both front and rear wheels are untrue. Each wheel costs 20-30$ to fix. I bought some tools to true them at home.
Fenders: there aren't any. There are some you can and should buy on Amazon or else get ready for your back to get splashed when you bike thru a puddle with 2-3 Oz of water.
Pas modes: zero- it's a manual bike. 1-top speed 10 mph, 2-15 mph, 3-20 mph. Throttle can only work if you are in Pas mode and will accelerate to the Pas mode max speed.
Gearing: shifting is fine, it's a Shimano base model.
Battery: good for biking short distances and helping in acceleration. On the battery mount it states 36-48 volts, so maybe a bigger battery could be installed. Manual mentions that voltage of system can be modified. Although also states not to modify it.
Motor: it's not really PAS. If you pedal, the motor will engage and try to hit it's Pas max speed. I'm in first gear, I pedal, motor doesn't "assist" instead it goes towards this max speed . So the motor doesn't remove a certain percent of effort until you hit this max speed and go beyond it. At 12 mph on Pas mode 1, pedaling feels easier. Also there is a lag between starting to pedal and the motor engaging. It's annoying for me but prevents you from crashing if you are pedaling thru tight spaces or corners.
Accessories: there are none from jasion. So if you want to install anything it will be aftermarket and it will be hit or miss. I got a bike lock to mount to my bike and could only fit on the front fork. There are some holes in the chassis for some fenders but you will have to go thru trial and error.
Seller/way of business: I don't like it. Why? Buying the bike has a 60$ shipping that you lose no matter what and if the bike is defective, you have to also pay for return shipping and some even more for restocking as per their manual. It's a low end bike with sub par QC. So unless you are in it and are willing/capable to give your bike a tune up once you receive it, carefully consider the above. In my case I'm looking at 100-150$ to change tires, true the wheels and change the pads. Those are basics that should be properly assembled and guaranteed for at least a few months within receiving the bike.
Bike kickstand: Its in an awkward position and my ankle keeps hitting it. Considering removing it.
Manual: doesn't state much. You need torque specs? Out of luck. Replacement part numbers? Also out of luck. Not much information is available online.
The rest: handle, pedals, lights, seat, suspension, all basic suiting the price tag.
Fitment: I'm 184 CMS about 6'1", this bike is small for me. They say it's for riders up to 6'4". No. It's not.
Should you buy it? It's a good mode of transportation that's for sure and the cheapest on the market. There will be 100$ that need to be spent once you receive it.
I'm thoroughly impressed.
I weigh 200 lbs, and I can realistically expect to go about 22 miles on a charge. That is with the bike at pedal assist 3, and me pedaling. The bike's top speed is 20 mph, and it's a lot of fun to ride.
The bike is pretty rugged, and comes with a lot of components that I wouldn't expect to see on a bike this cheap. I'm 5'10", and the bike is surprisingly comfortable, especially on off-road and light trails. My other bike is a rigid frame, and every bump and jolt feels like it will grind your bones into glass shards after riding for too long. With the front suspension on this bike, I feel a lot more comfortable on gravel, trails and grass.
The bike isn't perfect, but you get a lot for the money. However, the tires are pretty cheap, and I expect they will need to be changed out soon. Also, the seat is very comfortable, but it also feels kinda cheap, and I don't expect it will last long. The screen is pretty dim on full brightness, and I can't see it at all if I wear sunglasses. The bike is fine on flat ground, or minor inclines, but it does not do very well on steep hills, and you will need to downshift and help pedal a lot to climb hills.
Final verdict: Not perfect, but WELL WORTH THE MONEY!
The bike's brake were slightly rubbing and the front wheel axle rod was bent. I contacted Jasion support and they responded promptly and agreed to sent a new part and also pay for charges to get brakes adjusted. So I am pleased with Jasion support.
The bike does come with two years warranty so if any issues develop later, I believe Jasion and Amazon will handle them in appropriate manner.
Overall, I believe it is a good value.
Update posted on May 8, 2023:
I have now more than 70 miles on it. I got 56 miles on a single charge (battery drained down to 40%) in pedal assist mode (assisting at 40 to 50 % power). It is much easier to go up the hill or riding against strong winds with power assist level at 60%.
Motor is smooth and powerful enough.
Recharging the battery takes about five hours.
I did have to install an extension to raise handlebars for allowing me to sit up straight while riding.
Pros:
- motor is responsive and great for speed and going up hills
- battery life is good for around 35-38 (you can push it to around 45 miles or more, depends on how you ride your bike and use the motor)
- horn and light work as intended
- front wheel suspension works amazingly, helped me get over many bumps on the trail
- screen is insightful
- great for short to medium trips
Cons:
- balance can be shaky at times
- gear shifting is decent but a cheap option, asked a bike expert said it the cheapest gear selector you can put on the bike
- battery takes long time to charge
- no gear locks
- as battery level decreases, even one bar the speed and power of the bike also significantly decreases
This bike has been great to me, just some things that could have made this bike better, it comes with this price point for e-bikes during this era. Prices will only go down in the future, but for my campus uses and daily rides this bike does the job.
Rating: B +
PROS: On one hand, the actual bike and functions work simply amazing for the price it is by itself. The full electric mode works best on flat ground but it definitely goes 20mph per the odometer and will even go up a slight angle without much problem. It took me physically peddling 10.7 miles in the morning, 1hr 20min down to 25min barely breaking a sweat. On the way back home from work, with peddle assist, it made even the steepest hill I have to climb(and it’s pretty angled) easy enough to not have to even stop peddling. It has definitely won me over.
CONS: I read a few others say that their back tire went flat pretty quick and that it’s not an easy fix. They do seem like rather cheap tires honestly. After making my first trip to work I was hopeful I didn’t get one of those too but half way there I started noticing my ride getting a little rough and I looked down to see the tire completely flat. I was still 6 miles from my house and it started to rain within moments of me stopping. (It says not to get it wet). I ended up having to call an extremely helpful family member as I waited under cover to help me out and I took it to the closest bike shop that works on electric bikes. They refused to work on it. I actually had to call nearly a dozen bike shops around town because this brand specifically doesn’t have some kind of safety approval and come to find out most places won’t work on this brand. When I finally found one they looked at it and said it looked as if there was a rip in the tire. I did not ride over anything suspicious as I’m used to riding a finicky bike with thin wheels. I ended up having to pay around another 100 to get a brand new tire that is made for longevity put on as bikes are how I get around town and do things and I can’t afford to go without them.
CONCLUSION: This bike works great but has several aspects, major aspects, that could be improved on. I would have paid a little more for better tires to begin with to skip the headache. I really really like this bike and it was worth it to put a little more into it for me as it really beats having to peddle your a** off but I would really consider this if it’s something you plan on depending on like that. It really does have great features and everything worked perfect and was easy to put together minus, the one thing that matters the most, being of lower quality.
Update: after seeing my review, the company finally contacted me. They sent me links to videos I had when I purchased the bike and they sent replacement parts. The new parts, so far, are holding up better. I have been checking frequently to make sure the screws are not backing out so he will not get hurt again. He loves the bike and it is working well now.
When you’re putting on the pedals, just make sure you don't mix up the left and right ones—they're clearly labeled. If you get it wrong, one of them is gonna fall off eventually. The seat post clamp isn't the greatest, but it came over 80% charged and powered right up. Seriously, read the manual; there's a ton of stuff you can adjust.
The tires are holding air for now, but they were low, and who knows how long it sat around. They're CHEAP, so I plan to replace them soon. The brakes need some adjusting, too. There’s a small plastic cover for the handlebars in the bag—don’t lose that. Check out the photo for reference.
Oh, and one last thing: when you're putting on the handlebars, don't move the wheel or the bike. There are two guides on the top and bottom of the fork tube, and if those come out of place, you'll be in for a struggle. I’ve also heard some nightmare stories about the charger messing up the display's CPU. So my tip? Make sure the bike is off using the switch (it's in the manual), then press the horn until it’s drained, and only then plug the charger into the bike AND THEN into the wall. That should help avoid any power spikes. I’ll give you an update later!
Final Verdict? It's a good bike produced by a good company. Just make sure you have everything you need to go over each and every screw on it & tighten down All of them before you even take it for a test ride.
I think the value for what you are getting is a solid bet, I purchased this with a sale going and paid $340, which to me is a fair price.
It gets four stars for me because the seat, while functional, is super uncomfortable and for a daily commuter you’ll probably want to upgrade to a different seat - I simply took the seat off my other bike and switched the bolts out to make it look clean for the assembly. Super easy to assemble out of the box, came with a full charge, also mine came over a week early for delivery - so that was awesome too.
I’ve been riding the bike over the last week, outside of the seat being uncomfortable, the handle bars seem to sit a little low for me - I am 5’11, so if you’re near that height I’d look into an adapter so you can have your handle bars ride a bit more comfortably for your height. After riding around town (at full throttle) for a little over 4 miles, my charge was at the halfway point - I’m at 190 lbs, impressed me in terms of its ability to haul me around, going up the steep hills in my area has also became significantly easier with this bike. Another thing of note is the battery indicator, as it goes past half battery the indicator will read various charge levels, jumping from one bar and sometimes back up to half charge. So far it hasn’t been an issue, I’d like to have the option to purchase another battery but haven’t seen any options for this specific bike - thought that was strange, there is probably an after market option out there. Outside of these specific things, the bike rides and handles really well, again I think the value of what you’re getting is solid, you can modify the bike as you go if you wanted to improve upon it, definitely have a bike seat in your shopping list if you buy this - solid bike!
Anyway, somehow the geometry on my mountain bike, I replaced this one with, is different. In as far I could adjust my seat so as my feet were just touching ground and I could peddle comfortably. For some reason I cannot do this on this bike. I probably have to raise the seat so as my feet would be quite a bit off the ground. I would feel much less stable while riding. By the way I'm 6'1" about 195lbs.
My neighbor, about 5 inches shorter, had no problem and really liked the bike. He tried all the gears and all the settings riding up and down our very hilly neighborhood.
I've ordered a new larger seat to try but I'm probably not going to be comfortable unless I transport the bike to a more level riding area to try to feel safer.
Like most reviewers, I have to give this bike a good review because most of the issues I'm having are with me and not the bike.
After getting the new parts and being a little annoyed with the delay and shipping situation, I can fairly say I'm enjoying this bike alot more.
Previous Review:
Delivery was a week late,
Worst handlebars, terrible seat and loose peripherals
Wouldn’t by again but not worth returning. Bike itself is pretty good
So far, I’ve put around 150 miles on it and I’ve encountered a few gremlins along the way. However, hands down to the customer service team for being very responsive and making everything right.
At 6’1” and 225 lbs, the bike fits me just fine. One recommendation: you're definitely going to want to replace the seat as soon as you can because it's just not comfortable for long rides.
Overall, the Jasion Electric E-Bike is a great value for its price and an excellent choice for those new to electric bikes.
Overall it's a fun ride that's saved me enough to likely have paid for itself with all the bus fair and uber money I would've spent.
I haven't been on a bike since 2013 but it took me about 5 minutes to getting used to. It arrives taken apart but as long as you follow the (easy) instructions you'll have it completed in no time.
Very sturdy and great quality. I'm impressed actually!
Also, it was a cheaper option than if I were to go into a physical electric bike store.
I really like how I'm able to select whether I want to workout or put on the pedal assist for an easy day. After receiving my bike, I've been outside more often.
I've encouraged all my family members to get these bikes! They're rad!
Would not recommend this bike. Worked for only about 5 months. Bought for my son for Christmas and paid $500 for it b/c shipping was a lot and it only lasted about 5 months. Reached out to the company via email twice b/c they don’t answer the phone and actually state to email them but I have never gotten a response back. Very disappointed!
The team quickly acknowledged my concern and guided me through the process of troubleshooting. Once it was confirmed that the battery was indeed faulty, they efficiently arranged for a replacement. The turnaround time was impressive, and I received the new battery in a reasonable timeframe.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with Jasion’s customer service and the quality of their products. It’s reassuring to know that they stand behind their bikes and are committed to resolving issues swiftly.
As mentioned, the bike itself is great. The digital display is easy to read and understand. Other functions of the bike including gear change, headlight, horn and the battery removal are very easy and can be learned with very little effort. Rides smooth. For my first ebike ever owned, very happy and very pleased.
Get bright or reflective helmet, jacket, pants, and backpack if you intend to go out in low light or dark conditions. You will be going 2-3 times faster for half as much effort, people on the road won’t be expecting you to be going this fast on the sidewalk. Parking lots, driveways, and street crossing is extra dangerous.
One of the pedals broke off, after my 1st fall/crash near the train tracks. My mountain bike took 20 years of similar crashes/falls to break a pedal.
The chain began rusting after 3 weeks of use. The chain on my 30 year old mountain bike that I barely take care of, is still rust free.
As of today, when I use pedal assist mode 3, the chain slips, but does not slip when only using the motor.
I do not drive. I relied on my mountain bike to get around my whole life until I got this on Thanksgiving. If Jasion were to use a higher quality chain and pedals, I think this bike would be perfect, it is however, very much worth its price.
First ride beautiful, motor has a fair amount of power for when you need a boost. LCD screen hard to see in bright light, but then do you need to see it much? You’re not going to break a speed limit :-))
Well see after a few hundred miles, but as of now I can definitely recommend it!
In the second week itself, all the spokes on the rear wheel came loose.
Thanks to Amazon’s service team—they tried to help by contacting Jasion. Jasion did help by refunding the repair cost.
However, the tires are the worst I’ve ever experienced. They get punctured easily, and most of the grip is already gone. I’ve had a flat tire twice already.
They claim the range goes up to 40 miles, but in reality, it only gives 20–23 miles at most, even on the lowest pedal-assist setting. On the highest setting, expect just 10 miles of range.
Update 2.0
Jasion bike reached out regarding and offered to send replacement of tire
The charger that came with the product didn't work but the seller did replace it. It was a rough two weeks while waiting for the replacement charger.
