The EGO POWER+ 21″ Select Cut Self-Propelled Mower delivers performance that exceeds the power of gas. The Select Cut Multi-blade Cutting System is equipped with three, interchangeable lower blades; the Mulching Blade, High Lift Bagging Blade and Extended Runtime Blade. The Mulching Blade comes installed on the mower and is ideal for weekly mulching, giving you the mulching quality you would expected from a high-end gas lawn mower. The High Lift Bagging Blade provides extra suction ideal for bagging, leaving your yard free of clippings. The Extended Runtime Blade provides an optimal balance of cut quality and runtime for all around performance. All three blades can be used interchangeably based on your desired cut. The EGO Upper Blade is used in combination with the lower blade chosen to slice the grass into fine fragments; this greatly enhances cutting performance with all grass types. EGO’s Self-Propelled Touch Drive Technology comes from years of research and development. Touch Drive Technology puts complete control of the self-propelled system in the palm of your hands by using pressure to engage the system. Easily control the variable speed with a dial positioned at your fingertips for safe and convenient operation. EGO harnesses the power of the industry’s most advanced 56 Volt 7.5Ah ARC Lithium Fuel Gauge battery by delivering over 60 minutes of cutting time on a single charge.

(1) Twin blade “select cut” is quite effective at giving a neat cut. I’m guessing the arrangement provides a bit more lift to provide an even cut, even with the standard mulching blade.
(2) Mulching seems better than my previous EGO, even traversing in a few longer areas of grass I have caused no clumping as the machine powered through and chopped the blades nicely. Probably that second blade effectiveness again.
(3) Runtime seemed a bit longer, but that may just be my wishful thinking.
(4) Headlights are a bit brighter.
(5) I like the sleek and sporty design, including the way the headlights are integrated. I definitely be styling when cutting my grass, and enjoy the envious looks of my neighbors!
Continued good stuff (reason I bought the EGO again):
(1) Quiet for me and neighborhood.
(2) No hassles with gas, oil, spark plugs, air filter & such.
(3) Light & maneuverable.
(4) Interchangeability of the batteries with the five other EGO tools I enjoy.
But … (don’t you hate that word?): the one negative for me so far is the solution for engaging the self- propelling feature. The two embedded switches in the handle are not as holistic a user interface as the previous model. First time I used the new mower I wanted to move it over two feet after putting battery in; when putting my hand on the handle to give it a slight shove I unintentionally engaged the embedded switch and the mower started zipping away. Same thing when cutting; I typically use the drive when going up the slight rise in my front yard but not at other times and I find it counterintuitive to position my hands on the handle such that it doesn’t engage (particularly when maneuvering the mower when your hands tend to move around a bit). Vice-a-versa, once engaged if your hands move slightly it disengages too easily. I guess I could dial the speed back to zero after disengaging, but repeatedly dialing that off and on (and finding right speed when on) would be a PIA. I liked the previous scheme of the lever you would pull back to lie against the handle much better - was a more conscious and positive step to engage the drive, and easier to keep engaged as your hand moves about a bit on the handle. Safer too, IMHO. Maybe I’ll get used it it over time and find a new Zen, but (there is that dang word again) I doubt it.
Overall a fine mower I definitely would buy again. I just hope EGO goes back to the previous drive engagement scheme sometime in the next ten years before I buy my next EGO mower!
I went with this mower because I have a few other Ego products- the blower, trimmer, and edger. They have all been awesome. My only complaint has always been longevity of the batteries. Seems I have to replace those after a few years. The fact that this came with two powerful batteries made it even more appealing. I used the AH 7.0 battery today, and it had plenty of juice left when I finished my front and back yard. For the first time in recent memory, I have way more battery power than I need.
There were a few thoughtful touches I liked. One such feature was a phone case that attaches the the handle bar and keeps your phone nearby and clean while you mow.
The one nitpick I found. I decided to bag my grass today, and learned that you need to change blades when you bag your grass vs mulch. I found the blade a little bit difficult to remove. Eventually got it, but the nuts weren’t very easy to loosen. Not looking forward to swapping blades a couple times a year, but this was still a 5-star experience.
I received the additional blades as well but I am having some difficulty changing them out but I may need a power tool.
10/10 recommend.
The 7.5mah battery is a beast and having the 5mah battery for backup is just icing on cake.
I also love the quick height adjustment lever.
I can't lie......I had to buy the weedeater and 670cfm blower combo with an extra 4mah battery (those 2 arrived today). Just used all 3 today for the first time and I'm so excited to use them all summer!
I also mow later towards the end of the night and the LED lights on this badboy are amazing. The quietness of all 3 are such a plus.
At this point I'm buying everything EGO
